Colourful engagement rings

When we think about traditional engagement rings, we generally think of a white gold ring with sparkling white diamonds, but why be traditional when you can have an engagement ring that is a little more out of the ordinary.

Customised colourful engagement rings are the new trend with engaged couples. Your engagement ring doesn’t just have to be diamonds, it can be customised to your choice of metal, shape, and gemstones so that the ring is personal to you.

You could choose rubies, garnets, emeralds, in fact anything that you want as most gemstones come in lots of different colours, so there is something for everyone.

Maybe you could opt for colours that will match your wedding colour scheme or maybe your birthstone, and to make your engagement ring extra special, you and your partner could even design the ring together.

Some online jewellers will allow you to design your own ring on their website, so you can experiment with different designs, stones and metals, you can then see the virtual design of your ring as you create it.

Jewler.co.uk, say, “We know that you’re not buying just a piece of jewellery – you’re trying to put how you feel into something that goes beyond words. That’s why you need something completely unique. Something that no one else has ever received. A One in a million gift. With a personalised piece, you will combine stones, metal and engravings of any colour and style you desire.”

Celebrities that have colourful engagement rings include Victoria Beckham, Lady GaGa, Heidi Klum, Elizabeth Hurley, and Halle Berry.

Blue and Purple Stones

If you fancy blue stones for your engagement ring, sapphires are a popular choice. There are other blue stones such as Alexandrite and Tanzanite, which have a bluish-purple hue, Aquamarine, which is like an ice blue stone, Topaz, a clear light blue stone, and Lapis Lazuli, which is deep blue with gold flecks.

A beautiful choice for a purple stone is Amethyst, this stone is light purple. For a brighter purple shade, choose Lolite. Purple Chalcedony has a deep waxy lustre appearance, but for something more sparkly Purple Sapphire looks stunning.

Pink and Red Stones

There is just something magical about Rubies and Garnets, they are a great choice if you want a colourful engagement ring. Another red gemstone is Tourmaline, which has a gorgeous deep red hue.

For pink stones, if money is no object. Padparadscha Sapphire or pink Diamond will make you feel like a real princess. Other pink gemstones include Moganite, this is a popular choice for engagement rings, with its romantic soft pink hues, the gem comes from the same family as Emeralds and Aquamarines. Pink Tourmaline is a dark purple-pink colour that would be a beautiful choice.

Yellow and Green Stones

For a sunny golden yellow engagement ring, a Citrine gemstone will look amazing and is a lovely more affordable choice than rare yellow diamonds which are more expensive than white diamonds. Yellow Sapphires are also a beautiful and sophisticated choice.

Gemstones for a green engagement ring could be glamorous Emeralds, which are dark green stones or maybe a green Sapphire. If you would like a paler green, you could opt for Prasiolite, a light green quartz.
