Honeymoon in the snow

Sitting on the beach or by the pool, sunning themselves and drinking margaritas, isn’t everyone’s idea of the perfect holiday.

If that sounds like you, then you’re probably wondering why you would you want to do it for the biggest holiday of your life, your honeymoon? But where else can you go and what else can you do if you’re not a warm weather lover? If your idea of a dream holiday is to visit frostier climes with snowy mountain peaks where you can snuggle up together next to a roaring fire, then we’ve got you covered.

When people think holidays in the snow, the first thing that comes to mind is a skiing or snowboarding holiday. However, that isn’t everyone’s idea of fun! So, here are our 5 fabulous ideas for your honeymoon in the snow!

1)    See the Northern Lights in Iceland

Visit Iceland (or Scotland if you’re on a budget) to check out one of the most beautiful sights in the world.

The window for seeing the Northern Lights is rather large, in fact it goes from late August to early April, so it doesn’t really matter when your wedding was if you want to make seeing the Northern Lights the focus of your honeymoon.

2)    Explore Russia on the Siberian Express

Explore Russia by train and whizz past landscapes glittering with ice. Experience all the majestic romance of the Romanovs when you visit St Petersburg and soak up the culture, cuisine and breath-taking architecture. After getting married somewhere like Gloucestershire’s awe-inspiring Clearwell Castle, what could be more fitting!

3)    Visit Lapland

If you’re getting married in November or December and are having a wedding that makes a few nods towards Christmas (think Christmas carols in the church instead of the usual hymns, and mince pies and mulled wine around a fireplace instead of the usual champagne and canapes after the service) then paying a visit to Father Christmas’s home might be the perfect way to celebrate your winter wedding.

When you visit Lapland there are all sorts of activities to keep you busy. You could take a sled ride through a sparkling landscape covered by a blanket of snow, feed reindeers and even visit The SnowCastle of Kemi, a hotel made of ice, complete with a spa!

4)    What about Whale Watching?

If you are an animal lover then how about making a search for whales the highlight of your honeymoon in Canada?

5)    Check out a Christmas Market

Visiting one of Europe’s many incredible and vast Christmas markets as part of your honeymoon would be another ideal way to celebrate your marriage if you got married in November or December. The best part of making this the theme of your honeymoon is that the grandest and most impressive Christmas markets are in some of Europe’s most fabulous cities. That way you’ll be able to turn your honeymoon into one of the most opulent city breaks ever!

Stay in the nicest hotels, visit the best restaurants, check out the culture, and soak up the history while also visiting pretty markets twinkling with fairy lights.
